“The Ethics of Women, or The Goal and the End” is a treatise on the proper behavior of women, by the andalusian scholar, Abu Marwan Abd al-Malik Ibn Habib al-Sulami al-Andalusi (ca. 174/790 – 238/852 or 3). This work includes materials gathered by Ibn Habib from different sources, drawing a picture of the role of women in the Islamic society. Matters discussed are in the context of the Andalusian society at the time of Ibn Habib. A part of the documentation is related to private sexual relations that are authorized between husband and wife. The work covers sexuality of women – that is women in public avoiding behaviors that would draw attention, and women keeping their sexuality exclusive to their husbands. Editing of Abd al-Majid Turki.
